The ‘Optic Modulation Controller’ uses the rotational speed and centrifugal force of a bicycle wheel in motion to control morphing, dynamic soundscapes. Using a light sensor gives a high enough sampling rate without running into “rolling shutter” effects or missing rotations by aliasing effects. Combining the information about inertia, speed and resulting velocity gives enough parameters to create beautifully complex soundscapes when set up properly.
The work was created as part of the “Bewegtbild im Raum” seminar of Prof. Lars Roth at the HDPK Berlin.
